mornings

Mornings have never been my time. I really like mornings, but usually my brain is slow and groggy and I have a rough time waking up.
Once I am awake, though, I love mornings.
I’ve been doing a lot of dawn photography, knitting, and writing. I’ll have some writing posted up soon. Still working mondays and tuesdays at our shop in Corvallis and for the next couple weeks I will be working weds, fri, and sat at our campus shop.
I’ve got an old friend who just got back to town so I will probably (money allowing) be going out a bit more, if I see you buy me a drink! No seriously. It’s just ginger ale.

Had a very active weekend, did a ton of brain work. Went to the art store, got a ton of tall canvasses which I prepped tonight, so new paintings in several mediums are on the way (the bird one was watercolor, these will be oils)
Also, worked with car wiring and did a bunch of research and figured out how to independently wire fog lights on a subaru so that they’d be able to be turned on apart from all the other lights and with high beams or none and also how to disable the DRL…I didn’t do the cutting and splicing but I researched the instructions and man when the lights worked how they were supposed to I almost jumped for joy and pride! I love figuring shit out.
Also went up to Sahalie Falls, haven’t been there since last summer so that was awesome. Took some pictures of a hot guy on a bike, too. A couple of those came out ok. Took a few dog pictures.
In this post are some pictures from last week, from this week. I’ll be arounf the shop til friday then I’m going on a trip, going to go see Yob and Weiner Kids, two awesome bands…I will be here working all week though and I will post a few work photos before I go, I’m sure.

the joys of pen and ink

There’s a real joy to it. The tools feel good to use- round nibs, scratchy fountain pen, with the smooth handle. FW inks and dr. marten’s. Soft, soft, soft plastic brushes. And the smoothest paper surface you can afford. Then you prop yourself up and doodle. Doodle! With all these fancy art supplies! What could BE more fun?
Of course every mistake becomes the death of that particular page- you really can’t fuck up at all, even less than with watercolor. At least with watercolor you can hit a new wash over it when it dries and hope for the best- but with pen and ink it’s meticulous, it’s perfection, and at the same time the looser you can be with it the better it looks.
I’ve been playing around all day with this. This is the best doodle I’ve gotten out of the day.
